Today's was the eigthy-ninth boat race between the Universities. Of these Cambridge has now won 47 and Oxford 41..; The race in 1877- resulted in a dead heat.

Since the war Oxford has won only twice, in 1923 and today.

The weather today was cold but dry and bright, and there were the usual huge crpwds on the banks.

Oxford were much fancied this year.

The start was made at 11.32 a.m., when Oxford took a slight lqad, rowing 36 to Cambridge's' 35. Cambridge in turn took a slight lead, but the crews were level at Beverl.ey Brook. Thereafter,they proceeded level uncjl the mile, when Oxford took a quar-ter-length advantage and held it • -itjl Harrocis, when Cambridge pulled a canvas'ahead. Both! crew's were rowing strongly, and they were level again at Jthe two miles post, but then Oxford boat took and held the advantage, and was one length ahead for a rhort while, only to be again successfully challenged by pambridge, who pulled ahead for a short time. At' the ■three mile mark the crews were'level, again, but soon after Oxford began gradually to get ahead, and kept and increassd the lea,d from one length at the White Hart to the end of an extremely' fine race.
