EARLY OFF THE MARK

EASTER MATCHES

Already many Rugby footballers are in training, and interest generally has been stirred much earlier than usual, this year being one of considerable importance from a Rugby football point of view on account of the Springboks' invasion.' With Easter falling early, many clubs have the opportunity of fulfilling special match engagements sooner than usual, and many fixtures have been made for the holidays.

Athletic Park is to be the scene of much football activity during Easter, and many .well-known local players will be seen in action, while there will also be visiting players in plenty. The matches set down for Saturday should furnish much bright' football. The Gladstone team, which" includes some of Wairarapa's prominent players, will take the field at 2 p.m. against Miramar, and after this match-last year's Wellington champions, Athletic; will have their annual engagement ■ with Hui Mai (from the Horowhenua district), the starting time of this' event being 3.15 p.m. On Monday at Athletic Park there will be something out of the ordinary, not only Rugby football but a general field day in connection with the Athletic Football Club's jubilee celebrations. Proceedings are to be commenced with a parade of past and present members, and in this there will be many Rugby, stalwarts. Addresses are to be given, and they will be followed by a sports programme in which the Athletic and' Wellington football and amateur athletic clubs' are combining. Then, .to top off, will be a match between Athletic and Wellington, and it should be a really fine first-of-season attraction with the excellent Rugby ■ material- ■ ■ available . for the match.
