IN THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Vacant ground in the vegetable garden should be dug over and, after receiving a dressing of superphosphate, be sown down in blue lupin or other quick-growing crop for digging in later as green manure. All crops may now be harvested, especially onions and potatoes, which deteriorate if they start into growth again. See that they are thoroughly dried off before storing. Where possible some portion of the garden should be trenched or double-dug each year. This increases the depth of soil and improves •the texture. Clean up all out-of-the-way corners which are apt to become breeding grounds for various garden pests. Burn any rubbish unfit for digging in, utilising , the ashes b sprinkling them over the soil.
