80TH CONVICTION
SLEEPING, IN BRICKWORKS
"This makes Ward's eightieth conviction in nine years, your Worship, for drunkenness mainly," said Sub-Inspec-tor J. A. Dempsey to Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, when James Ward, a labourer, aged 57, William George Hall, a cook, aged 48", and Dominic Augustine Clausen, a timber-worker, aged 44, pleaded guilty to being found last night without lawful excuse on the Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company's promises, 19-43 Rolleston Street. '
Sub-Inspector Dempsey said ;that shortly, after 10. p.m.. the.,men were found asleep in a room in .the brickkiln: Two empty methylated spirit bottles and a quantity of straw were in the room. - - -
Ward and Hall were each sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, and Clausen was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, ■ . . ■
