WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY
The Wellington Presbytery met this week at St. John's Church.
The' application of Mr. R. M. Rodgers, -8.C0m., to "be accepted as- a student for the ministry was approved.
A memorial minute to Mr. John McKay, an elder of the church for many years, was passed. The Rev. J. H. McKenzie reported on the dissent lodged concerning the appointment of a layman as Moderator. It was decided to.hold a full discussion on the matter at a later date.
It was reported that Messrs' E. C. Walsh and C. C. Sedgwick had taken up their work in the home mission stations of Roseneath and Johnsonville respectively. Visitation committees were appointed for Levin, St. Andrews, Johnsonville, and Khandallah.
Mr. G. B. Stephenson reported on the recent work of the orphanages. New buildings and alterations had made it possible to bring the girls' and boys' homes close together, thus releasing' the girls' home at Island Bay for an old people's home. The committee had.recently appointed Mrs. J. White, from the Domestic Science School, Dunedin, to supervise the diet of the children. Another appointee was the matron (Sister Mitchell).
The Rev. J. E. Lopdell reported on the plans for an evangelistic mission to be conducted by Mr. Andrew Johnston among the Hutt .Valley, churches and Eastbourne. .*" '
