TROTTING BREVITIES
Bonny Azure is held on lease by Mr. S. G. Hedley from her breeder,-Mr. L. J. Brake, Whangarei, and it is understood that when the lease expires at the end of the season she will return to her breeder. Toorak will be fancied in the Seadown Handicap at Washdyke on Saturday. The Champion Stakes winner finished fourth in the Eclipse Handicap at New Brighton after having a lot of ground to make up. Shrewdie won the Waihora Park Handicap at Motukarara through staying on better than his rivals. He was capably handled by J. J. Kennerley, who showed clearly that he had recovered from the effects of his serious fall at Addington some months ago. The Hamilton trainer C. Moran is in the unusual position of having four horses —Winshow, Broughshane, Ronnie Direct, and Meadow King—on closelyassociated marks. Winshow, 4min 40 sec, is on the Hawera Cup limit, while the other three are freely engaged at Wanganui.
Winshow failed to give Proletarian 24 yards in the Wairarapa Cup, but she had her turn in the McDougall Handicap, which she won in 4min 37 2-ssec, conceding Activity, who was second, 48 yards. Unless Activity has made improvement, Winshow should hold her safe, at a difference of 36 yards. Glorietta is giving away time. After one of the heat winners, Marble Bath, was withdrawn from the final of the "championship" at Wayville it became known that the stipendiary stewards were making inquiries. Rumour had it that Marble Bath was a ringer, but the investigations concerned the training of the horse, who was allegedly in the hands of disqualified persons. S. McMillan, of Sydney, denied these allegations, and ultimately received "the benefit of a very grave doubt."
