N.Z. TROTTING STAKES
TIMARU'S VENTURE
SQUARE-GAITED JUVENILES
A well-bred field1 of ten remains in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes, which is a happy augury for the Timaru Trotting Club's commendable venture in the classic field on behalf of the juvenile unhoppled trotter, whose welfare has been completely j neglected for many years past. i Good reports are to hand about Thor, j a gelding by Travis Axworthy—Mercedes, trained by M. B. Edwards for the Dunedin sportsman, Mr. G. R. Hudson. Annapolis, a sister to _ Indianapolis, is said to be a well-gaited trotter, and Frances Worthy, on breeding, should have speed. Sashworthy is another from a successful family. The New Zealand Trotting Stakes was sponsored by the South Canterbury Club with the support of Mr. J. R. McKenzie, who has guaranteed a sum up to £200 if the event 'should show a loss. Following is the field, the trainers being shown in parentheses:— X.Z.
