BAD MEMORIES
The annual sale of unclaimed packages, purses, bags, coats,, and the sticks and umbrellas that passengers leave behind them in city trams is at any rate a fine reminder that a great many people have shockingly bad memories. The sale was held yesterday afternoon in the Concert Chamber, and was, after the pattern of each of these auctions, carried through with snap—you either bought on sight or. you did not. Although- there was a great collection, houshold goods, clothing, footwear, and all the things that come out of parcels, sporting goods, some minor jewellery and some watches, there were no particularly valuable surprises, and the top price of the afternoon was paid for a leather coat, at £2. Most of the articles went quickly and cheaply, and buyers mostly got good moneys worth. The proceeds amounted to about £20.
The Soviet has consented in principle to prolong the Fisheries Convention with Japan until December 31, 1937.
Concern over the fate of a draught horse which has served the Otahuhu Borough Council for over 13 years was expressed by members at the council meeting, when the works committee recommended the disposal of all horses and drays (states the "New Zealand Herald"). Several members expressed the hope that the horse, which is over 20 years old, would not be sold inconsiderately. They urged that discrimination be shown to ensure the best possible home for the animal. It was decided to call for tenders and to review the position later.
