WELLINGTON CAPTAIN'S
SELECTION
■ With the selection of Lamason in place of Griffiths in the New Zealand team, it is obvious that the selectors have not been impressed with the righthand slow-bowling specialists. However there was not very much offering in tills particular type of bowling to meet requirements on a tour, and, with Griffiths out, it is not very surprising to find Lamason in. Lamason is an allrounder, and, as such, was regarded as being unlucky in not gaining a place in the first fourteen. Lacking nothing in confidence and being of the right type to lend a hand when a side is fighting its way out of difficult situations, he should do well on the tour with both bat and ball. There are those who hold the opinion that Lamason will be a more successful bowler in England than in New Zealand. He has been a consistently good . performer in representative cricket in New Zealand for some years though the present season has not been one of his best. In this season's Plunket Shield matches he made 132 runs at an average of 26.40 and took six wickets at an average of 32.33.
The Wellington College Old Boys' Cricket Club had arranged a function for B. G. Griffiths. . This was to have been held on Saturday, night, but it will not now take place.
