A PLEASANT PARTY
KARORI CROQUET CLUB
The Karori Croquet Club gave a party recently to celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Mrs. W. S. Austin (the president of the Wellington Association) attended also Mrs. Boocock, Mrs. Gardner, Mr. Burn (patron of the club) and Mrs. Burn, Mr. F. Dryden (honorary members and representatives of other clubs). Mrs. Kearney, president of the local club, welcomed the visitors and announced that Mrs. F. Dryden was the club's guest of honour, as she had recently been made a life member. Mrs. Dryden was a foundation member, had been elected on the first committee, and had been a committee member ever since. Mrs. Dryden was presented with a shoulder spray of red roses. She thanked the members who had thus honoured her and related a few of the happenings of the early days of the club. Mrs. Robert Gardener congratulated the club on its long and successful career and spoke of Mrs. Toms, a young and most successful player, who had won the level singles and the intermediate champion of champions in the recent tournament. A delicious afternoon tea was served, the tables having been beautifully decorated with the club colours, purple and mauve, by Mrs. Dryden and Mrs. Sutherland. Mrs. Dryden has undertaken this duty for the opening-day function every year since the club was formed. There was also a beautiful cake, iced and 'decorated with the club colours. After tea competitions were held, the prize-winners being; Hidden treasure, Mrs. Strickland; mat, Mrs. Franks; peg, Mrs. Spence; French, Mrs. Henderson; angles, Mrs. Winchcomb.
