NINETY-THREE, NOT OUT
A happy function was held yesterday at Ruahine Street, Hataitai on the occasion of the 93rd birthday of Mrs. TV A. Urwin. This took the form of a lunch party attended by some' of her sons, daughters, and grandchildren. The decorated birthday cake with its 93 candles was cut by her eldest son, Mr.. E. A. Urwin, who also proposed her health. Mrs. Urwin received many congratulatory telegrams from all parts of the Dominion as well as numbers of bouquets and sprays of flowers. She is well known to many people as a member of the Old Settlers' Association and of the Navy League, and she has for years past taken a keen interest in the Returned Soldiers' Hostel. There are eight children living, 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchil-dren. Mrs. Urwin still enjoys good sight and hearing, and is able to at- j tend to the management of her own affairs. A brightly-painted basket with a handle is a handy and attractive way of keeping logs by the fireside. A dinner dress of crystal velvet with full rucked sleeves, and soft flowers at the deep narrow neckline, is designed for the woman of fifty, who can wear light shades. [ Wool for evening wear is one of. the most surprising features of Paris modes, and even tweed is used for evening coats. Evening coats of tweed may have sequin revers. \i ■ ■ ■ ■•■ i
