AMERICAN NAVAL BILL

CONFERENCE PROPOSAL
DEFEATED
WASHINGTON, March 5.
The House of Representatives passed the Naval Supply Bill after defeating an amendment which would have requested President Roosevelt to call a disarmament conference of representatives of Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Italy, and Russia to "halt the mad naval race." ■■• •■ < ' Following its defeat, the amendment will again be submitted in the form of a resolution for action later. The Naval Bill provides 130,000,000 dollars for the complete construction of two battleships, 11 cruisers, 48 destroyers, and 17 submarines. It provides 29186,000 dollars for aeroplane construction, which will give the navy 397 new 'planes by June, 1938.. The Bill now goes to the Senate.
