PIGEON RACING
The Wellington Central Pigeon Club held its first race of the young bird season on Saturday from Shannon. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 12.30 p.m. in fine weather, with a moderate south-westerly wind. The birds did good times, as they encountered a northerly wind at this end of the journey. The winner was Mr. A. A. Wilton, whose bird covered the distance in lhr 14min 18sec. Results are as follows:—Mr. A. A. Wilton's Master Monarch, 1430.3 yds per minute, 1; Mr. M. G. Smith's Winning Hit, 1407.4yd5, 2; Messrs. Dickey Bros.' Crescent Star, 1389.9yd5, 3; Mr. F. d Ferri's Strella, 1366.1yd5, 4; Mr. T. Sherwood's Avro Plane, 1336.4yd5, 5; Messrs. Webb Bros.' "Queen Dorothy," 1264.9yd5, 6.
