PICNICS
Some 300 adults and 80 children attended, the annual picnic of the Wellington Hairdressers' Assistants Union at Maidstone Park yesterday. Despite showery weather a varied sporting programme was held, the principal event, the 100 yds championship, being won for the second year in succession by C. Lamont, who retains the Riverhead Gold Cup. The committee comprised Messrs. T. Tierney, L. Clark, R. Green; N. Sander, A. Hoxburgh, .T. Catherall, and Miss Bradstock. The starter for the races was Mr. L. Clark, and the judge Mr. W. Spittall. Results of the events are as follows: —Girls 2 to 4: Joyce Smith 1, K. Sander 2. Boys 2 to 4: Mervyn Tierney 1, Brian Tallock 2. Girls 5 to 9: L. Gordon 1, E. Pinfold 2. Boys sto 9: Ivan Tierney 1, Dave Smith 2. Girls 10 to 14: Patty Don 1, Merle Pinfold 2. Boys 10 to 14: E. Newman 1, G. Brooks 2. Boys' novelty race: E. Downie 1, W. Roud 2. Consolation race: D. Cresswell 1, D. Turner 2. Single men's 100 yds handicap: L. Eagan 1, R. Green 2. Married men's 100 yds handicap: L. Home 1, C. Lamont 2. Lady assistants' handicap, 75yds: Miss Murphy 1. Miss Percival 2. Wives' 50yds handicap: Mrs. Lamont 1, Mrs. Clark 2. 100 yds championship: C. Lamont 1, L. Eagan 2. G. Difncan 3. Master hairdressers' and tobacconists' handicap, 50yds: M. Trower 1, N. Mercer 2. Ladies' potato race: Edna Dyer 1, Jean Armstrong 2. Men's potato race: L.
