REORGANISATION PLAN
THE OYSTER INDUSTRY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, March 5,
The plans of the Government for the development of the oyster industry in New Zealand were discussed by the Minister,of. Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D..G. Sullivan) in an interview. ■;"-' '
"The- Government is keenly interested," said Mr. Sullivan, "in placing the oyster industry, and, indeed, the fishing, industry generally, on a better basis.' Not only is this necessary from the point of view of those engaged in the industry, but also, what is more important in the interests of the consuming public, there is the question of the conservation of our national supplies, and this matter will require an extensive investigation. "As I have announced previously," said the Minister, "the question of preparing a plan for the reorganisation of the fishing industry has been referred to the Bureau of Industry, which recommended as a preliminary step that a small committee be set up to gather the necessary data, especially on the problem of distribution and marketing, so that the whole position and the needs of the industry and of the consumers of the products of the industry can be examined by the bureau with a view to securing reorganisaiton and co-ordination. This committee has now been set, up and its inquiries will embrace' the oyster industry."
