COLLODION'S EASIER TASK
Collodion followed Bazaine's suit of t>vo successes on end when he had his task made much easier than it looked likely to be in the Ohakea Hack Handicap by the scratching of Flarnmarion, Catalogue, and The Bigot. The field was thus reduced to smgle-divi-dend dimensions, but it still drew a four-figure pool. Collodion won comfortably. He waited on the outer quarters of Golden Chest till the straight, and after taking charge he held Tail Light at bay by over a length. It was at Wanganui in January that he won his first race for over eighteen months, and this was his first start since. A five-year-old bay gelding by Colossus from the Absurd—Liquify mare Absurdity, a full-sister to that smart sprinter of a decade ago, Deluge, and the dam previously of Treasure Hunt, he is held on lease and trained at Wanganui by jthe former Riccarton and later Awapuni trainer J. H. Boyd. Tail Light, after being pocketed on the home turn, came up on the inner of All Spirit in the straight, but he never looked like getting to the winner. Golden Chest weakened into third, and All Spirit lost his place when he,, hung out entering the straight.
