Mrs. Roosevelt disclosed in the coUrss of a lecture that she carried a. revolver when she motors alone, and that she "knows how to use it." She declared that she never asks, for guards, which are frequently furnished' for her, but she prefers to go about,alone.

The Pope, in 'his first public engag&» ment since his illness,' blessed a Golden Rose for the Queen of Italy. The ceremony ' lasted twelve minutes, • after which a photograph.was taken of his Holiness and prelates.
