ACCIDENT IN GORGE
UNUSUAL' CIRCUMSTANCES

PALMERSTON N., This Day
Two young men from Foxton are in the Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition as the result of a motor-cycle accident which happened at the Woodville end of the Manawatu Gorge yesterday afternoon. They were both found lying unconscious partly down a bank by passing motorists while their machine was propped up against the wire roadside fence.
The two men are Robert Morris, flax worker, and • D*olphe Halidone, flax feeder. They had been to the Trades Union picnic at Ashhurst. There was no indication of a collision, but both must have been lying for some time where they were found, as blood was drying on their faces.> A ' doctor was summoned from Woodville and they were .brought into the hospital by the Free Ambulance.
The hospital authorities i-eported this morning that Morris is now conscious and. his injuries consist of a lacerated face, cut knee, and a fractured right arm. Halidone has a fractured skull and face abrasions, and a lacerated knee. The condition of both victims was reported to be favourable in the circumstances.
