The Englishmen began today a twoday match against a Victorian country side on a perfect wicket with beautiful ground - surroundings. They batted freely, scoring 344 runs in 246 minutes.
The feature was the total of 104 in 158 minutes by L.. 8.. Fishlock ■in ■ his first innings since he broke.his hand at Adelaide. before the fourth Test. W. R.. Hammond made . a - % most artistic 53 in'sixty minutes. W. Voce and G. O. Allen made a last-wicket stand of 80 in forty minutes, Voce making 53 not out in fifty minutes. Each scored a 6. Fishlock's form indicated that.it is likely he would have been troublesome in the Tests if uninjured. Scores:—
