THE YON LUCKNER SEXTANT

Sir,—lt is as well, perhaps, before certain misstatemerits about this sextant appearing in your issue, of yesterday -become too widely disseminated, to attempt to eliminate them. Mr Gatty has made a valuable contribution to the history of the sextant; and, with this information at hand, -its value as a historical object has been materially increased. It is the statement, perhaps of little importance as regards the history of the 'sextant, that it has been lying unseen for years "in a case somewhere in the basement" that I desire to correct. Actually,' the instrument was oiv exhibition in the old Museum until the building was closed in April last. —I am, etc., .
