"GIFT EVENING"
Over seventy guests were entertained recently afthe Mitchelltown School, when a "gift evening" was held in honour of Miss- Bess -.Andrew, who is .to be married shortly. The hostesses were the matron of honour (Mrs. L. C. Higgs) and the bridesmaids (Misses E. Cleaver and N. Pearsall), the M.C. being,. Mr,. R. Andrew. Modern and old-time dancing occupied most of the evening, during which a charming exhibition of tap dancing was given by Shirley Nancarrow. A delicious savoury supper' was served, after which ;the opening of numerous useful gift parcels by the bride-elect brought the evening to a very happy conclusion.
Continent, will return to Wellington by the Rangitata, due on Friday next.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Richards, of Devonport, Auckland, arrived by the Limited, yesterday to join the Rotorua. They intend touring the Old Country and the Continent.
Miss B. Mortimer, daughter of Mr. F. G. Mortimer, Petone, who has been touring the North Island visiting friends, has now returned to Christchurch.
Mrs. Gordon Hare and Miss Hare (Feilding), Mrs. Fry (Sydney), Mrs Rayshould (Melbourne), Mrs. Houston (Wanganui), and Mrs. E. McCullough (Christchurch) are staying at the Empire Hotel. ;
Mrs. W. McCulloch (Napier), Mrs. N. A. Naismith (Auckland), Mrs. F. Gorringe, and Miss F. S. Fraser (Levin) ■ are staying ■at the Royal Oak Hotel: ;•
Mesdames M. McTigue (Methven), R. McMaster (Featherston), V. Boag (Blenheim), Miss A. Harding (Darga--ville) are among the guests staying at the Grand Hotel.
Lady Edmonstone (London), Mrs. McGowan (London), Mrs. J. B. Gordon and Mrs. ■S. L. Gordon (New South Wales), and Miss Chalmers (London) are staying at the Midland Hotel.
Mrs. G. Weymouth (Sydney), Miss H. Justice and Miss L. Autz (Philadelphia) are guests •at the Hotel St.George. ■
