NOT A PARTY
The Wellington Harbour Board is no longer a party to the caretakers' and cleaners' award, by the judgment of the Arbitration Court of February 25.
The board and many other harbour boards had from time to time' been added as parties to awards, which covered -workers employed by such harbour boards, says the judgment. In those cases the workers were usually men regularly employed in recognised trades—painting, plumbing, and carpentering. The Court was informed that the present case was different in that the workers in question might be employed for part of their time as caretakers or cleaners, and for other part of their time on other duties.
"For this reason," says the judgment delivered by Mr. Justice Page, "we think that it is not desirable to join the "Wellington Harbour Board as a party to the caretakers' and cleaners" award."
