A BIG CONTRACT FOR TURKEY.
A contract of the value .of £3,000.000 Cor the construction of iron and steel plant at Karabuk was signed at Angora recently by an English firm, H A Brassert and Co., Ltd., with the Sumer Bank, Turkey's industrial bank. The works, which are the first steelworks in Turkey, will be of the most modern design, featuring the Siemens open-hearth system. British and Turkish material will be used throughout and only British and Turkish workmen employed. Paytr mt of the contract will be made over an extended period and will be made by the export of certain Turkish ores, such as chromium and antimony. Work on the construction of the plant, which will «ive employment to thousands of men, were to have begun last month It ,i? anticipated that it will be complete in abou two and a half years. When 1.1 operation, the steelworks will employ 700 workmen and the annual output of iron and steel will be between 150,000 and 175,000 tons.
