GLORIOUS BEGONIAS

V:A:few days,, ago Wellington ratepayers turned down a proposal for; the expenditure of money to build a new conve'rsatory to house the city's excellent collection of begonias. To many this is a matter for regret and for this reason they will welcome th« announcement that.at Mr: Sutherland's, in Honiewood-Avenue, Karori, there is a magnificent display at present of these. :gorgeous "flowers. , Mr.'-Suther-land's grounds and conservatories' will be open to the public from 9 a.m. every day till Monday, March 8. ■ . ■. Here visitors will be able to get some idea of what a huge array of well grown "begonias means. The main conservatory ' is' very large with tier upon tier of splendid plants carrying literally thousands of blooms of all shapes and in delightful colours. There are light pinks and dark ones, salmons in various tones and shades, yellows, crimsons, scarlets, and in fact all those gorgeous colours which nature has concentrated in the begonia family. There are. frilly blooms r . waxy blooms, and others like, huge camellias, and these, too, are in every shade of colour. ' Year ■by year connoisseurs in London select the latest and finest creations, and these ■ come regularly to Homewood, until today, the collection ranks very high. -The blooms now are just about- at their best, and flower-lovers should- avail themselves of the opportunity to see this wonderful collection. Afterwards a visit to the aviaries, the ferneries, and the grounds with their array of beautiful flowers will be a delight to all who avail themselves of the opportunity.

Lanvin has made belts of corrgugated gilt kid, with one end falling to the hem of the skirt. Gold and jewelled belts are still worn in Paris, and a plaque of jewel mosaic, like, a tiny oil painting, Is a new note.
