QUEENSLAND'S PLAN
The Queensland authorities are putting into operation a project of lining all highways with special trees and plants that will give them an individual character in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Cook Highway, which winds along sunny beaches, will be planted with coconut palms, with Poinciana regia in between to give splashes of colour. Along the Pacific Highway a start has been made with the scarlet poinsettias to contrast with the lilac-flowered jacaranda trees. Another highway has bottlebrush trees intermingled with different wattles, v/hich will make a brief colour show v/hen in bloom. Other flowering plants or "shrubs being used are silky oaks, flrs, and tulip trees.
