VISIT TO HUTT GARDENS

The Wellington Free Kindergarten Council is again organising one of its delightful parties, when a number of lovely Hutt gardens will be visited, tea being served at the close of the afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Phillips.

Last year a similar visit _to_ gardens was a great success, and it is hoped that all who so generously supported the effort then will co-operate this year. Kindergarten friends with cars are already being asked to make up parties to fill their cars. All wishing to assist in this way should communicate with Mrs. Dowsett, through whom the bookings will be made. Printed particulars will be forwarded to those who are willing to help in this way, giving the names of the gardens to be visited and the order in which they will come in the afternoon's programme.

The New Year flower is the narcissus. In China, where this flower is named the "Water Fairy," it has been the custom for hundreds of centuries to grow it in pots filled with water and pebbles and forced, the idea being to time the- opening of the flowers on New Year's Day. If the blooms do open on the first day of the year, it is said to ensure good luck and happiness for the next twelve months.
