MATCH AT THE BASIN

MERCANTILE LEAGUE BEATEN

A number of cheap wickets were ; obtained in the one-day practice match ; at the Basin Reserve yesterday be- . twecn senior teams representing the j Wellington Cricket Asosciation and ! the Wellington Mercantile League. ; On the other hand several excellent individual performances were registered, notably by V. H. du Chateau , and E. W. Tindill, who scored 64 and 40 respectively for . the association team, and J. Ashenden, who took eight of the Mercantile League wickets —four in the first innings for 30 runs and four in the second for 31 runs. . D. S. Wilson also bowled well for the : association team. The association team compiled 182. . Rotherham kept a good length through- i out for Mercantile League to take four . wickets for 36 runs, de Clifford took three for 53, and Dow three for 1. Dow, who was not brought on to bowl un- - til after the luncheon adjournment, . quickly ended the association side's innings. ■ The Mercantile League team replied . with a total of 80, the only batsmen to reach double figures being James (32) and Aldridge (16).
