BIG FIGURES
Five-figure pools on individual raccs at Trcntham have been very rare during: the last seven or eight years, but five times these figures were reached yesterday. The largest pool came on the Douro Cup, the machine closing with the total at £12,327. The horse who was entrusted with most support yesterday was Gold Boa in the Metropolitan Handicap. A sum of £2925 was invested on her alone, two-thirds of the amount being on the win machine. not the easy win she.had on Wednesday and she may have had just enough racing for the time being. Her record, built up in <just three months, now reads eight wins and two seconds m ten starts for £1435 in stakes. Royal Dance filled the same place as on Wednesday, and. his performance was an even more solid one, for he had the Winner always doing her best. He has been unlucky on the trip to strike so outstanding a mare as Gold Boa is. , The others were outpaced. Knockfin, with .a better beginning than on the first day, came along in the straight to deprive Pakanui and Paper Slipper of third prize, nearly three lengths back.- Pakanui. who drew the outer was always weil up and was third till on the post. .Paper Slipper, who has not shown quite his best brilliance at the meeting, tired into fifth, and perhaps that race in the Wairarapa Cup has taken temporary toll from him. Fulojoy and Greek Gold were always out of it, and Acceptable simply _was following h» recent rule in finishing down the course.
