GOLD BOA AGAIN
NOT SO EASY THIS TIME Gold Boa was first double winner at the meeting when she added the Metropolitan Handicap to the fine record that she is building up for herself. She was also first winner at the meeting to be backed down to odds-on on the win machine. Though investors so agreed to the result before the race was decided, the contest proved one of the most interesting struggles for supremacy at the meeting. Gold Boa, from 'No. 2 marble, led from start to finish. She did not, however, have just the canter she had on the first- day. Royal Dance went for her from the start, and before the field came to the straight R. J. Mackie was nibbling at her to keep her clear. She ran out a little making the crossing, and below the false rail Royal Dance began to pull her back. Mackie quickly decided not to risk encouraging her with his hands ainy longer, and she had to have the.whip on.her over the last furlong/to hold, th'e persistent northerner at bay. The margin in Gold Boa's favour was officially given as a-head, but it certainly looked • from/ the Press position to be greater than that, even after making all allowances.. Still it was
