FUTURE OF BOYS
VALUE OF SCHOOLING (By Telegraph.) ! (Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. There are numbers of primary school children seeking work, although in many cases their years and physique indicate that continuation in a secondary school would be an advantage from every point of view, said the vocational guidance officer in a review of the juvenile labour market. A noticeable feature this year is the number of exceptionally small boys registering. It would be -well if parents realised that in the majority of cases worth-while positions go to those young people possessed of secondary schooling. There was, he said, a decided shortage of girls of 15 and 16 years for industrial work. Sewing workrooms and factories generally were demanding beginners. A decided shortage of girls for factory work was felt, and during the past fortnight considerable difficulty had been experienced in filling inquiries. There was also an acute shortage of domestic help. Girls were deserting domestic service for other classes of work, notwithstanding the fact of better wages being paid. He stated that the Government is interesting itself in the matter, and investigations have alreadly been started.
