That there is a division of opinion t on the benefits to be derived from a ! widespread amalgamation of local [ bodies was shown from statements by ■ the delegates at a conference held in > the Waimea County Council chambers. ; The Tahunanui Town Board favour- ' ed amalgamation, and the Wakapuaka 1 Drainage Board favoured absorption t if it could be shown that the interests ■ of ratepayers in its district were to ' receive an equal or better service, but • at present it did not think that would ; result. The Motueka River Board fav- £ oured amalgamation either with the j Waimea County Council or the Motut eka Borough. The Motueka Borough 3 Council was opposed to amalgamation. - The Richmond Borough Council was opposed to absorption by the county I council, but favoured becoming part of j the city council area in future years. . The Waimea County Council thought - it would be in the interest of the dis--1 trict if part of the Tahuna boroughs - of Richmond and Motueka, the Motu- '• eka River Board, and the Wakapuaka g Drainage Board were absorbed by the . county. . c
