Comprehensive proposals for the improvement of adult education were adopted by the University Senate. A proposal to establish a national council for adult education was included in 2 the report of a special committee which was presented by the Vice-Chancel; lor, Professor T. A. Hunter. The first part of the report stressed the importance of the subject and the • second reviewed existing facilities for • adult education and considered means " of developing them. The third part • contained concrete proposals of the various agencies mentioned in part two. The Workers' Educational Asr sociation was stated to be by far the 0 most important. d The committee heartily supported a recommendation that a special comg mittee of Maori education be appointit ed. It also expressed the opinion that e there should be permanent machinery ;- for the co-ordination of adult educad tional activities and that that could be e achieved only by a permanent body. In e addition to a national council the comk mittee proposed a committee of adult g education in each university district, 't Of the five members of the council one n would be appointed by the Minister of it Education, one would be the Director y of Broadcasting, two would be aph pointed by the Senate, and one by y the Dominion conference of the Workd ers' Educational Association. _ The council could elect its own chairman who would hold office for three years. Mr. W. J. Morrell, in seconding the . report, expressed gratitude to the committee for its admirable work. 0 Mr. H. D. Acland paid a tribute to the work of the Vice-Chancellor. Mr. L. J.
