TRENTHAM RACES

THE SUMMER MEETING

FINAL DAY IN SUNSHINE c i: LARGE ATTENDANCE c p (By "Ribbomvood.") Willi some abatement in the wind f and real January sunshine at last, the S best weather of the week was experienced lor the concluding day of the Wellington Racing Club's Summer a Meeting at Trentham today. It £ was a day to attract a big attendance, and there was another large crowd - at the course prior to the first race and a considerable increase in the ■ strength of the attendance during the \ first two events. Exccpt for the wind, ■ it was an ideal day for enjoyable a racing. With the wind and sunshine the track had firmed up, and the going wb3 the fastest at the meeting, though, according to some of the riders, the course was very much rougher than usual, due mainly to the long period of wet weather, which prevented work on the track. The heavy sole of grass <5 was against record times. _ a The usual comprehensive facilities g catered for the needs of the crowd. The betting was under the win-and- j place system with the new Julius totalisator, which was closing prompt- c Iv to schedule, and running descrip- j. tions of the racing were broadcast on h the course. Results and notes on the running to j time of going to press were:— 4 WALLACEVILLE HIGHWEIGHT 9 HANDICAP, £300; second horse £70 3 and third £35 from the stake; 1} miles. " 9_lo—Mr. A. W.
