BALKAN PRINCE'S BROTHER
The star performer among the two-year-olds at the Perth CW.A.) Cup Meeting was Gay Balkan, a brother to Balkan Prince, who ran third in the last Melbourne Cup. Gay Balkan, who is raced by Mr. W. J. Winterbottom, part-owner with Mr. H. E, Vail of Balkan Prince, had two runs at the meeting for two wins, which included the classic Karrakatta Plate. In his second win, under handicap conditions, he had to be pushed along narrowly to defeat Owlet, who, however, had a pull of 271b in the weights. To date, Gay Balkan has raced only four times for the two wins mentioned, and a second. He raced very greenly in his first couple of 'attempts, and though improvement was shown in the subsequent runs, it was apparent that he still has considerable room for additional improvement.
