MASPORT CUP
SPEEDBOAT CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Pelorus Jack, defender of the New Zealand speed-boat championship for the Masport Cup, was successful again in the race held at Picton this morning. Three boats started, the other two being Miss Otago (Wanganui) and Tory Queen. Pelorus Jack got away and soon reached a speed close to 70 miles an hour, taking the lead. Despite a bit of engine trouble at the start, Miss Otago hung on well until about two miles through the third lap. She was then seen to lift suddenly into the air, and after nearly capsizing, dropped out of (lie race. Pelorus .Tack eased up a little, but, even so, almost hipped Tory Queen.
