ELECTRICAL STORM

THREE INCHES OF RAIN IN AN HOUR By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, January 3. A short, but very heavy electrical storm struck Kowai Bush, in the foothills at the back of Sheffield, at about 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon and when, at the end of an hour, the rain slackened off, about three inches had fallen. One result was a slip on the West Coast railway line one mile west of Kowai Bush, and an excursion train was delayed for some time. Trains can get through today at a slow speed and gangs are now repairing the track. Some minor slips are also reported on country roads. The storm was not widespread.
