MR. LARS NEILSEN

(Special to the "Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. The death occurred on Friday last of Mr. Lars Noilsen, one of the early pioneers of the Mauriceville district. The late Mr. Neilsen was 75 years of age, and his death followed on a brief illness. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark. in 18G1, he came to New Zealand with his parents sixty-four years ago, in the sailing ship Elsina. Landing in Wellington, the family journeyed to the camp at Dreyerton, now Kopuaranga in a bullock wagon. The late Mr. Neilsen was one of the original directors of the Mauriceville Dairy Company, on the board of which he sat for many years. He also took an active interest in church affairs, being chairman of the Lutheran Church committee at the time of his death. With the exception of seven years' farming in the vicinity of Palmerston North and six years at Stratford, the whole of Mr. Neilsen's life in New Zealand was spent in the Mauriceville district. He married in 1882 Miss Hannah Herlund. who predeceased him live years ago. The surviving members of his family are six sons—Messrs. Charles Bernard Neilsen (Stratford), Arthur Neilsen (Auckland), Hans Neilsen (Palmerston North), Harry Alfred Neilsen, Norman Neilsen, and George Leonard Neilsen, all of Mauriceville; two daughters—Mesdames P. Martin (Christchurch), and J. Sinclair (Napier) ; twenty grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
