MRS. W. H. ATACK
Mrs. Atack, wife of Mr. W. 11. Atack, formerly manager of the New Zealand United Press Association, died in Wellington yesterday, at the age of 81. Before her marriage Mrs. Atack was Miss Ada Mackett, and was engaged in the teaching profession, having been trained in England. She came to New Zealand with her parents in the ship Ocean Mail in 1874, and the family settled in' Christchurch, where her father followed the occupation of a horticulturist. At that time the national education system in New Zealand was getting under way and certificated teachers from England were welcomed by the Education Boards. Mrs. Atack was engaged in teaching until her marriage, the final position she occupied being headmistress of the South Christchurch infant school. She was very musical and was a frequent and popular performer at concerts in Christchurch. On her marriage in 1886 she came to Wellington and she resided here since that time. Mrs. Atack shared in the social activities of her husband, who took a prominent part in the formation of the Charlie's Auitf Club in 1913. Mrs. Atack was also a leading member of the club, but in recent years she did not enjoy very good health.
