TMERMIDOR GOES BETTER

Thermidor, improving considerably on Eny form she showed at the Manawatu Meeting, where she could not see out any journey, led from end to end in ';he Electric Hack Handicap. It could not have been any difference in the going, but possibly the turning traci: suited her better, and of course also the furlong less. The form was mors in accord with her showings at the New Zealand Cup Meeting. This filly is a three-year-old daughter of Eobespierre and the Martian—Lady Lilian mare Lady Minerva, thus being a half-sister to the Auckland Cup winner Minerval, and she was bought for 100 guineas at the yearling sales by Mr. G. R. Macdonald, a brother-in-law to Sir Charles Clifford and whose horses are also trained by the Cutis brothers. She was previously a winner

missed a place in yesterday's event with his own Ally La France. Huntette, the favourite, was second in all the running, but after moving out rather late in challenge she failed by over a length to reach the pacemaker. Toorak came from the rear on the turn to be third a couple of lengths away. La France was up with Huntette at the straight entrance, then was unable to come on. Royal Gold was a fair fifth; but Martinborough was early beaten and Beagle never improved a great deal at any portion. The biggest pool of the day, just under £4000, was handled in this race. r
