CANTERBURY PARK 1 TROTS (lly Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, January 1. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club opened its Summer Meeting today. After rain overnight, the weather improved as the day wore on. The track was very sofi for the early races, but it dried up a little, though still heavy at the end. The totalisator handled £30.558, against £26,066 10s last year, an- increase of £4491 10s. Great Linnet led for two furlongs in the Introductory Handicap, and then broke, Royal Parrish taking charge from chudleigh, Sonoma King, Survivor, Fluke, and Great Linnet. With half the: journey gone Chudleigh was showing the way to Sonoma King, who then wtmt to the front and was not again troubled. Chudleigh was in second place to the straight, but was then heided by Guy Hugo, who came fast over the last half-mile. Great Linnet and Fluke were next. The winner liveci up to a reputation as very good in soft ground. Mother's Boy was onj of the field that acted badly. Admiral Wrack broke soon after the start of the Railway Handicap. On Parade led for two furlongs, when he was joined by Worthy King, who drew clear a little further on, On Parade. Royal Comrade; and Happy Knight following him at the half-mile post, after which On Parade dropped out. There was no further change, Worthy King winning easily by five lengths from Royal Comrade, whose stablemate, Happy Knight, was four lengths away. Fairhaven was several lengths back, at the head of a bunch.

CANTERBURY HANDICAP. Cloudy Rj.nge and Tempest, neither of them suited by the soft track, were withdrawn from the Canterbury Handicap. Willow Wave broke at the start, Sir Guy. following suit after fifty yards. Rollo led out from War Buoy, Evicjs, Graham Direct, and Blue Mountain. After going six furlongs, Grahjm Direct took third place, and he joired Rollo in front at the mile post. War Buoy and Evicus being next, with iill the others handy. The early pace had. been slow. There was no change till the straight was reached, where War Buoy took second place behind Rollo, with a bunch in close attendance. War Buoy finished well, but Rollff hung on to beat him by a head, with Blue Mountain a neck away. Roi I'Or was close up, just in front of Evicus and Willow Wave.

This was Rollo's first win for a long time, thougii he was placed earlier in the season after being in retirement all last season.

Dundee, Glorietta, and Sage King broke at the start of the Lyttelton Handicap. Harlequin began smartly and soon opened up a gap from Monty Chimes and Llewellyn's Pet. With half the jot rney gone Royal Palm was in third pliice, Ace Pot, Moana Tama, and Rewai being next, with Sage King and Ginger Jack moving up. Sage King took third place three furlongs from home, but :ould not get near the two leaders, Harlequin beating Monty Chimes easily. Sage King tired in the run home, but hung on, ten lengths back, to heat Ginger Jack by two lengths. Rewai and Dundee were next.

Lady Soioma was smartest out in the Stewards' Handicap, with Mataunga and King's Guard soon in close attendance, then Don Chenault, Amonos, and Norman Fox. After seven furlongs Lady Sonoma broke, King's Guard taking the lead, but he broke starting the last round. Norman Fox and Amonos were left in front, but Amonos lost several lengths when he broke along the back.- ■ Norman Fox led to the straight and stalled off Amonos by naif a length. Ganton, after breaking at the start, gradually made up ground, and finished well to beat Don Chenauti, narrowly J'or third place. FRISCO LADY BREAKS. j Blue Mountain Queen led out in the Islington Handicap and soon had Wilbur White and Golden Cross in .close attendance, while Pot Luck was third after half a mile, the others being handy. Half a mile from home Pot Luck headed Golden Cross in third place. A furlong further on Pot Luck was seconi, and he joined Blue Mountain Queen at the entrance to the straight. In a good finish Pot Luck did not slick on so well as his rival, who won by a neck. Happy Knight moved up in the last half-mile, being five lengths away third, with Valdor fourth. The favourite, Frisco Lady, broke at ;he start. Social I'est set the early pace in the Templeton Handicap, with Navy Blue and Doub'.e Great handy. Lucky Jack moved up after two furlongs, being just behind the leaders with half the journey gone. Lucky Jack started a smart sprint haif a mile from home, and a furlong further on he was in front. George Rey and Raydus headed the others. Guy Junior and Blue Mountain were well placed after six furlongs, but did not run on. Reporter broke soon after the start.
