MODERN BEAUTY PARLOUR A beauty parlour equipped with all modern machines and apparatus was to be opened in Moscow early in November, according to Mrs. M. Motolov, wife of the president of the council of people's commissars (states an exchange). Mrs. Motolov, who is the organiser and director of the perfumes and cosmetics trust in Russia, recently returned from an extensive tour abroad when she visited the beauty parlours of Germany, France, England, and America, investigating the perfume and cosmetic industries in these countries. According to her statement the first modern beauty parlour to be established in Russia will equal in every way those she inspected abroad. It is also planned to have a "curve correcting institute" and departments for plastic and aesthetic dancing to develop gracefulness and carriage among the wives of the new Moscow aristocracy. Mrs. Motolov explains that the beauty parlour would have been opened several months ago if her trust could have discovered sufficient trained workers. At present French specialists are teaching a large class in the use of modern machines which have been imported from the United States and France. The Soviet Press welcomes the new institution, reporting that in the future beauty parlours will be established in other cities, and that the Government is going to afford the same advantages to the Russian women to enhance and preserve their charms which till now have been the privilege of women in the capitalist countries. Soviet writers allege that only wives of wealthy bourgeoisie and capitalist families can afford to patronise foreign beauty parlours, and in Russia this institution will be open to everyone who can afford the fee. The prices charged by the cosmetic trust will at first be high, according to the Soviet Press, but will later be reduced.
