GERMAN RATIONING
BUTTER AND OTHER FAT? IMPORTATION OF WHEAT (Received January 2, 2.40 p.m.) BERLIN, January 1. Mail received by Germans on New Year's Day included ration cards for butter and other fats, which were delivered to every household. When the shops reopen tomorrow only registered customers bringing cards will be served with such commodities. The amount allowed to each person is not yet known, but it is presumed that it will be altered weekly, according to supplies available. It is expected that beef and veal will also be rationed unless the. nation takes the official hints and eats less meat. Germany possesses only half the amount of wheat that was available at the opening of 1936, and has arranged to obtain 500 truckfuls from Czechoslovakia under a barter agree* ment, although Czechoslovakia im» ports wheat.
