WEDDING

MILLS —BENNETT

There were many visitors from other •parts ■of the Dominion among the friends who attended the wedding on Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Bennett's elder daughter, Lois Joyce Johnston, and Fergus James Mijls, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Mills, of Temuka. ; The ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Canon Percival James, took place at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral at C p.m.

There were two bridesmaids. Miss Rachael Bennett (the bride's sister) and Miss Marjorie Barker.. Mr. Stuart Mills was best man, and the groomsman was Mr. Bernard Beale.

The service was choral, the wedding music being impressively played.

Brass bowls, filled with masses of blue and pink hydrangeas, stood by the chancel steps, while on the altar beautiful Christmas lilies were arranged, matching the sheaf carried by the bride, who was gowned all in white. She was escorted to the altar by her father, and her gown was of heavy matt needlerun lace. It was made on slender lines with a train, leg o' mutton sleeves tapering down to the wrists, and a square medici collar lattice beaded with crystal. A halo wreath of orange blossom held in place her long veil of white tulle, which was arranged with an upstanding fan-shaped pleating across the back.

The bridesmaids' gowns were very charming, long redingote coats of stiffened transparent white :■ blistered chiffon being worn over Alice blue taffeta slips. The -oats, which were open down the front, flared from the waist and had big puff sleeves. The material was sprigged with tiny rosebuds and checked with a silver thread. A self cord also checked the taffeta slips, which had a band of quilting and three rows of tiny frills at the hemline. Narrow baits holding the redingotes in to the waist were fastened in front with a flat caba<-'ion of handmade blue and pink rosebuds +~ match the wreaths worn by the bridesmaids on their hair. Their flowers were salmon pink gladioli arranged in a sheaf with pink roses.

The reception was held at the Royal Oak Hotel, the guests being entertained at a dinner party in the private diningroom. Mrs. Bennett was wearing a graceful ensemble of brierwood brown crepe and oyster and brown lace. The frock of brown crepe had a slight train and a yoke of oyster matt lace, while the finger-length coat was entirely of oyster lace with wide vandyked borders of the same lace in brown to match the frock. Her picture hat was a brown flower-patterned crinoline trimmed with velvet in shades to match the frock, and her bouquet was of salmon pink and yellow roses.

The dinner tables were decked with carnations, and the bride and bridegroom sat under a hugn bell covered with blue and pink hydrangeas and Christmas lilies. The orange blossom on the cake was some Worn by the bride's mother at her own wedding. The three-tier cake was made by a friend, Mrs. Neale, of Timaru, and another friend, Mrs. Hollis, Khandallah, iced it.

The toast of the bride and bridegroo. i was proposed by Mr. J. F. Redmond, and that of the bride's parents by Sir Alfred Ransom.
