CORONATION DANCE

JOHNSONVILLE CARNIVAL

The Queen Carnival organised in the Catholic parish of Johnsonville was brought to a close recently by a dance which took place in the Ngaio Town Hall. The main feature of the evening was the coronation of the successful Queen candidate, Miss Olive Gardiner, of Ngaio;'who represented the southern portion of the parish in the campaign. The hall was decorated with red and green streamers (the colours of the queen), coloured electric lights, and candles. Shortly after 9 p.m. the ceremony took place. To the strains of the march, "Garland of Flowers," played by Mrs. W. H. Gledhill, the procession entered the hall headed by the "Lord Chancellor" (Mr. W. H. Gledhill), who was followed by the "Mistress of the Robes" (Miss Joan Kyne), the "Princess-elect" (Miss R. Bramjey, of Johnsonville), "Maid, of Honour" (Miss Leah Bramley, Johnsonville). "Princess-elect" (Miss Marie Ryan, of Porirua), "flower girls" (the Misses Joy and Molly Carr, Eileen Nqlan'd, and Marie Kyne), and the "crown-bearer" (Master Ashley McHugh). All were dressed in costume. A fanfare of trumpets heralded the entry of the queen-elect wearing her scarlet robes trimmed with white and black fur. Her train-bearers were Masters Nevin McCarthy . and Noman Smith.. The entry of the "Lord Chamberlain," Mr. Ashley Levestam, terminated the procession. When all were assembled on the stage the proclamation was read by the "Lord Chamberlain," and the crowning ceremony performed by the "Lord Chamberlain." This was followed by the reading of the "Queen's Proclamation" which confirmed the election of the "Princesses" who were presented to "the Queen." Honours were conferred on the:

"queen's" mother, Mrs. Helen Gardiner, and the secretary of her committee, Mr. Maurice McCarthy. Bouquets were presented ,to Mrs. T. Tindall, "the queen," "the princesses,' and the ■•queen's" mother.

The remainder of the evening was spent-in dancing,. Mr. Neil McHugh being M.C. " '
