UP 50 PER CENT

OTAKI INVESTMENTS

CUDDLE'S GOOD CUP TRIAL

Proximity to the Christmas holidays did not prevent the .Otaki Maori Racing Club's Summer Meeting on Saturday from being a complete success. There was an excellent attendance, though Wellington patronage was less than usual, and the totalisator improved well over 50 per cent, on last year's figures. The investments, amounted to £8931 10s, which was an increase of £3302 on the £5629 10s handled twelve months ago, when the meeting was held a week earlier. The weather was fine at the commencement of the programme, "with warm sunshine, but a change set in before the third event and rain fell lightly during the fifth and sixth events. The wind also became rather chilly, but the rain cleared away for the closing races. The track was firm and fast, and it was not affected by the light showers, which were insufficient more than to lay the dust temporarily. The fields, with numerous defections, were never very large, but two dividends were able to be paid in every event. Form generally worked out fairly • well, with three favourites and three second favourites successful; the only unexpected results were those of Jubilee Song and Huntette towards the close of the day.:: Cuddle scored impressively in the main.handicap, and as a result she is certain to come into strong favour for the Auckland Cup on Saturday. Trentham's . only other winner was Revival. The Otaki centre provided three of the victors.
