JACKSON STREET
WIDENING OPERATIONS
Another step forward in the widening of Jackson Street, Petone's main street, has been the calling of tenders by the Petone Borough Council for the setting back Of Butland's Building, a large brick building containing several shops, between Nelson and Eichmond. Streets.
iThis building has been taken by the council under the Public Works Act, and work will commence next year. This leaves only two other buildings to be set back —Armstrong's (next to Butland's) and Hepworth's (on the east side of the Post Office), but in the case of the.latter building only the front will need to be set back and remodelled.
The council will wait .until after Christmas before sealing the roacj in front of buildings : which have re^ cently, been set back. ' . .
