"GREAT AND VERSATILE ATHLETE"

■> "It is with great regret that we have to record ihe death of E. G. .('Buz') Sutherland," slates the annual report of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. "Sutherland was a great and versatile athlete, who came1 particularly into prominence immediately after the war. He later went to South Africa and represented that'country with great credit at the Olympic Games in 1924. Subsequently he returned to New Zealand and continued to perform with great merit in a wide variety of- events. Altogether he won twelve New Zealand championships in five different events. 'Buz' Sutherland was always most willing to give to the younger athletes the benefit of his knowledge and experience. Of a mo.st modest and retiring disposition, he gained the affection of all with whom he came in' contact, and his loss will be keenly felt. To his widow and young children the association extends its very sincere sympathy.''
