Dr. S. Kenneth Phillips, of Auckland, has received advice that he has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London. Dr. Phillips already holds the licentiate and associate diplomas of the Royal Academy of Music, and is the only Doctor of Music of the University of New Zealand. The diploma of F.R.A.M. which Dr. Phillips has now been awarded is the highest distinction given by this famous institution, and is comparable with the R.A. of the Royal Academy of Arts. It is conferred only on ex-students of the academy who have distinguished themselves in their career after leaving the academy, and the list of fellows is restricted to some 150 members. So far. as is known this honour, has never before been bestowed upon a musician resident in New Zealand.
