DOMINIONS SHIPS

PROTECTION BY NAVY

(Received December 2, 1 p.m.) LONDON, December 1. Speaking in the debate in the House of Commons, Mr. E. Shinwell (Labour) asked, supposing that a Commonwealth ship registered at Adelaide engaged in traffic to Spain, whether it would receive the protection of the Navy. Mr. Runciman: I think the Navy would refrain from giving, protection if Dominion ships were contravening the law relating to British ships. Mr. Shinwell: Has the absence of protection been conveyed to the Dominions' Governments? Mr. Runciman: That has nothing to do with the Bill.
