EASTBOURNE CARNIVAL

(To the Editor.)

Sir.—lt has been reported that the Eastbourne Borough Council has refused permission to hold the Eastbourne carnival in aid of the Health Camp at the seaside in proximity to Rona Bay Wharf. I think the council has missed a splendid opportunity to popularise our beach and ferry boats. At present our beach is becoming an eyesore for want of use. Most picnic parties are well catered for at other beaches further north. Now that Eastbourne has water and drainage, is it not high time that the Borough Council gave some assistance to the ratepayers to place our sunny seaside on the map? At present our. bathing house is used principally as a changing house for Butterfly Creek trampers. I think a large majority of shopkeepers and residents want the carnival at the wharf.—l am, etc., ■DA rimn A VTTI?
